CABN to Develop Immersive Accommodation Experience at The Cedars in Hahndorf, SA

CABN SET TO DEVELOP IMMERSIVE ACCOMMODATION EXPERIENCE AT THE CEDARS

27 November 2021:  Australia’s leading off-grid self-contained accommodation company, CABN, is set to develop a new multi-million-dollar accommodation experience at The Cedars, home to Sir Hans Heysen’s former residence and art studio, in the Adelaide Hills.

CABN will design and build a range of cabins and tours that will form part of the broader expansion program underway at The Cedars, that will include a new $9 million gallery, restaurant and retail shop funded through the $551m Adelaide City Deal.

Announcing the development onsite with Premier Stephen Marshall today, CABN Founder Michael Lamprell said the opportunity to partner with the Hans Heysen Foundation and to be part of this development was truly special.

“Sir Hans Heysen is such a big part of Australia’s artistic and cultural history. It is an incredible honour to be part of this new chapter at The Cedars,” said Michael.

“Our aim is to further extend this revered landmark by creating the opportunity for visitors to stay on the 120-acre property, explore the studios of Hans and artist daughter Nora Heysen, the Heysen residence, the new gallery and immerse themselves in the natural setting he adored, loved, lived and painted.

“We’re designing a range of cabins to suit different audiences, all unique architecturally designed structures including luxury cabins for those looking for a more premium experience. They will all be tastefully designed complementing the quiet nature setting, and with views to showcase the landscape that inspired Sir Hans Heysen’s internationally-renowned artwork.

“And for those traversing the 1200-kilometre Heysen Trail, there will now be the opportunity to stop and stay overnight at The Cedars, and enjoy the full Heysen experience as part of their journey.”

“We’ll also be collaborating with the Traditional Owners of the land to celebrate the broader cultural significance of the land in the experiences we will offer.”

Premier Steven Marshall said the development of The Cedars property will create an even greater tourism offering in the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

“Our regions are a big part of why Adelaide is the most liveable place in the country, and the third in the world – and the Adelaide Hills – just a short drive from the CBD, plays a big part in that.

“These new CABN’s will create a real buzz in the Hills where visitors will be able to come and stay, enjoy the amazing Hills wineries, check out Hahndorf and visit the beautiful surrounding towns.

“All of this leads to more dollars and jobs being injected into the local Adelaide Hills economy,” Premier Marshall said.

Hans Heysen Foundation Chair, Mr James Sexton said members of the Foundation and community are delighted to work with CABN to develop the experience at The Cedars.

“This is a really exciting time for our community. We have spent decades preserving and restoring this treasured historical asset, and sharing it with visitors. To expand this to a new level to include accommodation means we will be able to offer a deeper connection with the environment that inspired Heysen’s work,” said James.

“We’re thrilled to partner with CABN, particularly given their commitment to the environment and sustainability and we know all the stories will be appropriately intertwined in the experiences offered to our visitors.”

“This next step really is a fitting tribute to Sir Hans Heysen and his family, and part of our history that no doubt should be shared farther and wider. This will now give us the opportunity to do just that.”

CABN’s accommodation development is set to open in the latter half of 2022.
